Hokusai RemixedUkiyo-e prints were produced through a three-step process: the artist draws the image, a craftsman carves the woodblocks, and a printer applies pigments to the woodblocks and prints them on Japanese paper. As a result, many ukiyo-e works share the same motif but vary in textures and colors. This collection is made by reconstructing many of Katsushika Hokusai’s Ukiyo-e works produced in this way.
A unique combination of Hokusai works from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
